Halloween Cupcakes

Although Halloween is not a holiday we traditionally celebrate in South Africa, I have had a few requests for cupcakes to celebrate this day. I really had such fun making these – i basically sat down with my sugarpaste and made whatever came to mind.

This is the Halloween Collection – these cupcakes are a combination of plain chocolate and also Orange Velvet (a recent spin off from Red Velvet that is really quite yummy).

And a spooky spook

If there is one thing I have learn’t from being in the Cupcake Business – it is to let your imagination run wild and don’t let anything stand in your way!

Racing Car Cake

I made a promise to a very dear little boy some time ago, that come his birthday I would make him whatever cupcakes he wanted. Come his birthday, he couldn’t decide, but he knew that he wanted a big cake and that Cars (ie the movie) had to be involved somehow. So his mum and I brainstormed and this was the result.
A double layer ‘tray cake’ filled and frosted with buttercream icing. So very very simple. A No 6 ‘racing track’ on top, and checkered flags all around.
Some grass, some flags and a few cars to add to his collection and we were all set to go.
The cake was an absolute hit. Little J was completely delighted and so were his friends. But most importantly, the cake itself was delicious. So very very moist and yummy. I think by the end of the evening there were only a few crumbs left on the board.

The sign of a good cake? I think so.

Pink Ribbon Cupcakes

As we are all aware, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I am sure that each of us has been touched in one way or another by Breast Cancer and am sure we will all agree that it is not something that we would like to happen to us or our loved ones.


In honour of this I have put together a selection of Pink/Pink Ribbon Cupcakes, of which I will donate 10% of all the sales to the Avon Foundation for Women.

I really believe that this is something that us, as women, need to be more aware of. And not only are you supporting a worthy cause, you get to feast on delicious cupcakes too!

Chocolate Wedding Cake

A wedding cake is such a personal thing, and often it is quite difficult to decide on exactly what you want – there are so many options out there and then of course you also want it to tie in with the chosen decor of your wedding day.

My client decided on a 3 Tier, Double Layer Chocolate Cake for her special day. It was frosted and filled with Mocha Buttercream Frosting and then very simply decorated with handmade butterflies and silver ribbon.

I was a little concerned that it would not be ‘WOW’ enough, but I am sure that you’ll agree, this cake certain contains the WOW factor!

In fact, it was simply stunning. The chocolate, silver and blue all worked together so well. Simple, understated and yet incredibly classy.

And it just goes to show, that your wedding cake doesn’t have to be covered in Sugarpaste – with enough care and effort by your baker, you can achieve just as elegant a look!
