A rather unusual superhero cake.
The Batman Logo, superman coloured covering, and a rainbow cake inside.
Different? Yes!
Fun? Definitely!
And a super chuffed little boy upon delivery!
One of my regular clients approached me to make a cake for her parent’s 40th Wedding Anniversary, and this is what we came up with.

She wanted similar colours to her parent’s wedding day, and of course flowers.
The cake was red velvet on top, with the bottom tier being carrot. Both had cream cheese frosting.
I loved making this cake, and loved the look of delight on my client’s face when she saw it.
And the sms I received from her mom ” Thank you sooooo much for the beautiful cake you baked for our 40th Wedding Anniversary! It tasted so yummy too!
I absolutely *loved* making this cake.
I think perhaps the fact that the client is also a friend & now a family member, that could have had something to do with it.
She gave me a picture of what she wanted, and I changed the colours to match her Country Themed wedding, set on her family farm in Hogsback, Eastern Cape. The cake was Red Velvet on top, Choc in the middle and Carrot at the bottom. YUM.
I also then made items of yumminess for the dessert table – Chocolate Brownies, Sugar Cookies, Cake Pops, Cupcakes and Caramel Tarts. Other yummies included Heart Shaped Fudge, Lammingtons and Rocky Road. A true feast. I had an absolute ball putting together and decorating the Dessert Table – such fun!
An absolutely gorgeous wedding!
One of my favourite clients ordered this cake for her son’s birthday.
A snake cake – eeeuww! Living on a farm we have our fair share of them and i’m not a fan!
However, I did love how this one turned out. He doesn’t like the sugarpaste covering, so this was just covered with Dark Choc Buttercream and then embellished with Sugarpaste.
Apparently it was a hit with the kids who fought over who was going to get the snake!
I love doing cakes for Baby Showers – and I love doing something a little different.
This cake was a 4 layer Vanilla Cake, filled with Caramel Cream (a very popular combination).
Apparently the mum to be has a thing about pink ellies, hence little ellie on top, and I thought the bunting round the side brought it all together.
Mum to be was thrilled and said she didn’t want to cut it!
This past weekend it was my daughter’s 7th Birthday. A couple of months ago she decided that she wanted a Rainbow Unicorn Party. So that is what we did. We had such fun planning everything. My daughter assisted me with all the goodies – from what to say on the invite, to the sweeties on the table and also the decor of her cake.
So i thought I would share the party with you, including the cake and eats. I shall be doing a separate post with the tips and tricks for the eats, and creating the Rainbow Invites, Buntings etc.
Enjoy!
Your comments (and questions) will be welcomed.
Thanks for taking the time to look.
I thought I would share with you today, the rainbow cake I made a while ago for a first birthday party. I don’t normally share my recipes on my blog, however, this is a fun cake to bake (especially for kids) and I’m not really giving away my recipe, just giving you some guidelines to empower you to make this gorgeous cake yourself.
I started off by mixing a batch of Vanilla Cake that I would normally use to make 2 x 9″ round cakes. Line and grease your tins – i only have two, so had to re-use them 3 times as there are six colours. Once you have mixed together your cake batter, divide it equally between six bowls. I did this by weighing each empty bowl, clearing the scale and then adding in the batter. I *think*, but cannot quite remember, that I put 150g worth of batter in each bowl, but don’t hold me to that measurement. Basically you need to finish all your batter between the six bowls.
You then need to colour each bowl of batter. I used Cake Flora Gel Colouring in the following colours:
Electric Orange
Egg Yellow
Super Red
Regal Purple
Electric Green
Sky Blue
You need to add as much colouring to get to the colour you desire. Remember, the colour of the uncooked batter is that same as the cooked cake – it doesn’t darken or lighten.
Once you are happy with your colours, pour into your greased cake tins and bake for between 10-15 mins @ 180. Just keep an eye on them as they are fairly thin. Repeat this process until all the colours have been baked, and then allow to cool.
I then mixed up a batch of Vanilla Buttercream Frosting and set about assembling my cake. As violet is the bottom colour of the rainbow i started with that too, adding a thin layer of frosting and topping with your next layer (mine was blue). Repeat this process until all the layers have been used and then frost the top and then the sides.
My client wanted this cake covered in Kit-Kats round the side and then topped with M&M’s, but quite honestly – I LOVED the look of the cake without any adornments at all!
Happy Baking! And please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions
