Christmas Cake & Cupcakes

I decided this year to make Christmas Cakes. This was the first time I have done this, and whilst they are fairly time consuming to make (and bake), I feel that they are well worth the effort. I was lucky enough to be given my mother in laws recipe, and it is divine. Jam packed with fruit, nuts, cherries and lots of extras, it is an absolutely delicious cake.

Fruit & Nut Christmas Cake

As I have a wedding cake order for next year, I made a small cake, as a ‘taster’ for my client, but decorated it in the Christmas Theme for fun. Simple, but classy.

Vanilla Christmas Cupcakes

And then my favourite, vanilla cupcakes with white buttercream frosting and Christmas decor. SO pretty. And aqua and white for a change, with silver accents.

Merry Christmas to all of my readers, followers and clients. Thanks for all the support this year – it really has been an amazing year. I have been so blessed by all of you.

Travel safe if you are, and enjoy this special time with your families x

Christening Cake

Seems November is the time of the year when babies get dedicated by their parents to our God above.

Train Christening Cake

I loved how this cute Christening cake turned out.  A square Vanilla Sponge, topped with the cutest (and simplest!) train you ever did see.  Plus of course the baby’s name.  Blue, because he’s a boy, but also because he has the biggest, bluest eyes you ever did see!

And I believe it went down a treat :)

Garden Cake

I recently had a request for a cake for a little girl turning 7 and who was having a “Garden Party’. She did not want the cake covered in sugarpaste, because it was too sweet.

So i decided that simple cake with green buttercream frosting, lots of bugs, bees and flowers would be perfect for her.

This was the outcome.  And I’m pleased to say that she was delighted with it. Yay!

I love the contrast of the pink & green, and also the cute No 7 caterpillar. And just because I had extra cupcakes over from another order, I made a Garden Cupcake too – cute huh?

And with that i’m off to work in my garden!

Happy Weekend all x

80th Birthday Cake

I recently had the priviledge of baking a cake for a very distinguished lady.  She is a lady in every sense of the word, and when her daughter-in-law asked me to bake her 80th birthday cake, I was thrilled.  And I knew that it had to be a beautifully simple, but classy cake.

This is the result.  Vanilla sponge with caramel filling.  A sugarpaste coating and then a single ivory sugarpaste rose, with a trail of ivory dragees.  And a no 80 adorning the front of the cake.

So simple, yet oh so elegant.

Handy Manny 2nd Birthday Cake

One of my regular clients requested a Handy Manny birthday cake for her 2 year old nephew. She doesn’t have children herself, so had to google to see what he was all about! Luckily I have a 5 year old daughter who is quite the Handy Manny fan, so any questions I had regarding the cake went right her way!

A vanilla bean sponge, sandwiched together with caramel. My most popular cake flavour among adults and children alike. Covered in sugarpaste and then Handy Manny himself, together with his trusty philips screwdriver, Felipe.  Cute huh?

Winnie The Pooh Cake

A sweet little boy called Noah recently turned one, and it was my priviledge to make his cake. Which had to travel a good 400 km’s to reach it’s destination, but i’m glad to say that it did.

A 2 tier cake. Bottom layer rich chocolate with buttercream frosting and the top layer simple vanilla bean with vanilla bean frosting.

Winnie The Pooh, his hunny pot and presents are all made from sugarpaste.

You have to admit – he’s very cute!

30th Birthday Cake

This cake was requested by my client for her friends surprise 30th birthday party. She was very specific. The cake had to be white, with this exact shade of blue, be decorated with dots and also have carnations on it as these are her friend’s favourite flowers.

I was a bit nervous that I would not be able to match up the blues correctly, but I did, and this was the outcome.

Instead of one large carnation on top of the cake, I did 5 smaller ones and clustered them together.

A simple design, but quite lovely. Oh, the cake was Dark Chocolate with Vanilla Bean Buttercream Frosting.

Baby Shower Cake

One of the cakes I’ve made in the last couple of weeks was this Baby Shower Cake.

It was a surprise gift to the mom-to-be, and my client and I kinda had an idea of what she wanted, but we also wanted it to be a surprise. So we used the decor for the baby shower as a starting point, and went from there.

And this was the result. A vanilla sponge with caramel and buttercream frosting, covered with sugarpaste.

The sleeping teddy ontop of the cake tied in with not only the decor of the shower, but also of the baby’s room.

Because it was for a boy, we decided on the blue sugarpaste. And can anyone resist the cuteness of a baby’s foot? Hence the footprints around the side of the cake.

I love how this cake turned out – so gorgeous but oh so simple

Bling Cake

I had complete carte blanche for this cake.

The specs were: My mum is very OTT and loves bling, so have a ball (which I did). Not too over the top, but classy and fun.

Again, my vanilla sponge with caramel filling, covered in buttercream & then sugarpaste.

A silver shoe completes the look, together with a few blingie balls round the bottom edge of the cake.

And the clients response? ‘You are amazing – you cake is INCREDIBLE! Thank you (again)  for your awesomeness’.

A happy client, i’d say.

13th Birthday Cake

My daughter turned 13 way back in April, but life has just been too hectic to actually celebrate it properly. However last week she had a *real* disco, and she requested a 2 tier stripey/dotty cake. She told me it had to have purple in it and had to be vanilla sponge with caramel filling.

So this is what I created for her:

I loved it.

She loved it.

I had *so* much fun decorating this cake. Deciding on the different colour purples to use. The thickness of the stripes. The size of the balls. And there was even a surprise element – once it was cut it was purple! Much excitement.

I loved everything about this cake :)
