Handbag Cake

Another of my regular clients is growing up far too quickly – as is evident by her birthday cake this year.

Her favourite colour is light blue and she is currently into style and fashion.  Her mum requested an unfussy cake so i decided on a simple ‘Chanel’ inspired handbag with a few scallops and swirls.

Cake was their family’s favourite – Vanilla with Caramel Cream filling (my other popular seller).

Farm Cake

This cake was sooo cute.  My client requested a cake with the animals that her daughter loves most – cows, sheep, donkeys and pigs (yup, she’s a farmgirl!)

So the cake was Vanilla with Cream Caramel filling, covered in sugarpaste and decorated with modelled animals.  I then finished it off with a scalloped border round the side.

13th Birthday Cake

A good friend of mine from Jhb was coming down to the Eastern Cape during the hols, and it was also going to be her youngest’s 13th Birthday. So she took the opportunity to order a cake from me (distance is always a problem!)

She wanted something girly, but funky without being too frilly.

This is what I created. Vanilla with caramel cream filling.

YM 13 Spotty Cake

Simply covered in bright pink sugarpaste, dots, a crazy crazy bow and a silver no 13.

I really loved creating this – i think maybe because it was for a special friend?

Fire Engine Cake

I find that I always get a bit nervous when having to do ‘boy themed’ cakes – probably because I’m a girly girl and have two daughters, so ‘boy’ stuff doesn’t really feature in my life at all!

However, I was thrilled with the outcome of this cake!

As the birthday boy was only turning 2, his mom wanted buttercream frosting and not sugarpaste. And i think it turned out really well.

It is a vanilla cake, with red buttercream frosting and then the decor is all sugarpaste.

Very cute!

Superman Cake

This cake was for one of my regular (and favourite) clients.

Superman. Every little boy’s superhero – yes?

Superman Cake

Again, Vanilla but this time with Caramel Creme filling and then Sugarpaste Detail.

My biggest joy when creating these cakes is the look on the kiddies faces when they open the cake box and see what’s inside – worth every minute I spend creating!

Thanks for looking

Beach Party Cake

Oh my goodness – how much fun did I have with this cake?

I have to confess the idea was not mine. I did however tweak and fiddle it somewhat and am completely thrilled with the outcome – as was my 9 yr old client!

It was was very simple to put together. The cake itself was my favourite Vanilla sponge and the layers on each tier were sandwiched together with Vanilla Buttercream & Caramel. All the embellishments were made a couple of weeks prior to the cake, simply using cutters and sugar paste.

And look what we ended up with?

Pretty cool dude :)

Buzz Lightyear Cake

Not having boys of my own, I always find making ‘boy themed’ party cakes a bit of challenge. Ie i have to change my mindset from pink and girly to masculine and brightly coloured!  But I managed to change my mindset enough to create this funky & delicious cake. A simple vanilla layer cake, shaped and then frosted with Vanilla Buttercream frosting.

Buzz is made from sugarpaste and he was quite fun to put together – I must be honest.

The cake board was covered in sugarpaste too, then stars cutout and replaced with coloured stars to match the party colours.

Polka Dot Ribbon Cake

Here is a really simple, but very effective birthday cake to make for someone.
This is a 3 layer vanilla cake, sandwiched together with caramel and frosted with buttercream.
Then simply topped with a Sugarpaste ribbon and small and large polka dots.
Thanks for looking!

Racing Car Cake

I made a promise to a very dear little boy some time ago, that come his birthday I would make him whatever cupcakes he wanted. Come his birthday, he couldn’t decide, but he knew that he wanted a big cake and that Cars (ie the movie) had to be involved somehow. So his mum and I brainstormed and this was the result.
A double layer ‘tray cake’ filled and frosted with buttercream icing. So very very simple. A No 6 ‘racing track’ on top, and checkered flags all around.
Some grass, some flags and a few cars to add to his collection and we were all set to go.
The cake was an absolute hit. Little J was completely delighted and so were his friends. But most importantly, the cake itself was delicious. So very very moist and yummy. I think by the end of the evening there were only a few crumbs left on the board.

The sign of a good cake? I think so.
